All milk that you can buy from the grocery store in Oregon has undergone pasteurization. Pasteurization is the process of heating milk up and then quickly cooling it down in order to kill any potentially dangerous bacteria. However, bacteria isn’t the only thing that pasteurization kills, in addition to killing all the beneficial bacteria in milk, pasteurization also kills the natural enzymes and destroys the chemical make-up of minerals like calcium that are naturally found in milk. It destroys the naturally occurring probiotics and vitamins and alters healthy fats and proteins!

Raw milk is fresh milk from pasture-raised cows, it is in its purest form, and retains all of it’s naturally occurring health benefits. Carefully produced raw milk has numerous health advantages over pasteurized milk. Raw milk is a living whole food which provides excellent nutrition along with health-supporting enzymes and probiotics. Raw milk has a superior nutrient profile!

Our cows are happy cows! During the dry months (March-October) they graze rotationally all day in the pasture, and enjoy the warm Oregon sunshine. During the wet winter months, the cows are cozy under cover and eating grass and alfalfa hay. In Oregon, you can’t sell raw milk as a retail product, but you can buy a share of ownership in the cow that makes your milk and get it that way — you’re not buying milk you already own. This is called a “shared animal ownership agreement” and is legal in Oregon.

The program works on a share basis, where each share gives you about 2 gallons of milk per month per share. You can own as many shares as you need to meet your family’s needs. Each share is $52/month (1/2 gallon per week, $12 per half gallon). A contract is agreed upon when you purchase your subscription. Milk is picked up at the farm, and available for pick up 3 days a week.

If you are looking to purchase raw milk, you most likely already know, or have heard of the amazing benefits of this nutritious product! Here are some common questions you may have regarding purchasing our raw milk….

What is a herd share?  A herd share is a program where you buy into and become a partial owner of the dairy herd and are entitled to a portion of the dairy products produced.  Our farm does the daily work, management and boarding of the cows and you are entitled to pick up a share of the milk they produce.  You can buy as many shares as your family requires.

What size is a share?  One share is 1/2 gallon of milk per week. We bottle our milk in ½ gallon glass jars with a plastic lid. 

How do I pick up? Our milk pick up is self-serve. When you sign your agreement, you will get details on how to pick up your milk. We would love to show you around the farm and show you how/where to pick up your milk! Pick up is available 3 days per week.

Do you test your milk for safety? We send a sample to an independent lab at least once a month to check the bacteria counts in the milk. 

How long will my milk last? Your milk stay delicious and fresh for 10 to 14 days in the refrigerator

Do I return the glass jars? We charge a $3 per bottle glass jar deposit; as long as you return your bottle(s) weekly there are no additional bottle charges.

Are there any other fees? We do charge a one time sigh up fee of $12.50.

Why is raw milk so hard to find in Oregon? Each state has it’s own laws regarding raw milk. In Oregon, you can not legally sell raw (cow’s) milk unless it is sold directly from your farm, and you must milk no more than 3 cows. Those restrictions make it hard for anyone wanting to sell raw milk!
